Advisory Board

The Advisory Board is a volunteer organization, operating in support of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.  Through active involvement and engagement, members of the Advisory Board promote the welfare of the College through advocacy, fund-raising, and service.  Members act as effective spokespersons for the role of the Humanities and Social Sciences at NC State, and for the role of the College across the state and beyond.

Brooks Raiford

Brooks Raiford, Board President

Brooks serves as President and CEO of the North Carolina Technology Association. He has an extensive background in government relations, business development and operational management. Brooks brings more than 15 years of experience with advocacy and policy issues, and has hands-on experience with operating both advocacy and philanthropic organizations. Previously, Brooks was the Director of Business Development with Balfour Beatty Construction, President of Leadership North Carolina, and an aide to former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt.

Emily Barbour

Emily Barbour
B.A. Communication (NC State University)

Emily has a strong history of leadership, having served as the vice president of development for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, vice president and chief development officer at Rex Healthcare, and senior fundraising counsel at the Hartsook Companies, Inc.  Prior to that, Emily served as N.C. State Student Aid Association’s (also known as the Wolfpack Club) associate director and director for the Office of Institutional Advancement at Meredith College.

Barry Beith

Utilizing human factors, design, and evaluation processes, Barry has been a champion in the fight to solve complex system and product design issues for over 30 years. A human factors and ergonomics expert, Barry has developed an executive philosophy which blends diversity, integration, and process into a formula for product evolution and creative revolution.  Barry is currently a Managing Partner at ThinkHFE, LCC, where he consults on industry projects and legal cases.

Erica Boisvert

Erica is the Chief Financial Offer at Southern Energy Management where she is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the company.  Erica is a licensed CPA. She is an active volunteer within her community and is a proponent for the advancement of cognitive science, behavioral economics and information technology.

Steve Bullard

Steve Bullard
B.A. Economics and Business Management (NC State University)

Steve is a native of Raleigh, with 22 years of experience in banking and finance.  He is currently the Corporate Banking Manager for BB&T’s Corporate Banking Group in the Triangle Region headquartered in Raleigh, NC.  He is focused on leading the corporate business development effort for the bank in the Triangle servicing publically traded companies, large privately held companies, hospitals, universities, institutions, municipalities, venture capital companies, and other large organizations.

Aaron Cook

Aaron is the student representative on the Advisory Board.  He is a Senior Film Studies student, a member of the University Honors Program, and a CHASS Ambassador.

 

Kathy Council

Kathy oversees development and delivery of online and printed documentation and information products that support SAS products globally.  Vice President since 1985, Kathy has headed the Publications unit since originally joining SAS in 1977.

 

Bob Geolas

Bob is President and CEO of the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, where he coordinates initiatives and efforts to ensure the Park remains at the forefront of technology and applied science. Prior to joining the Foundation, Bob most recently served as Executive Director of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) and Associate Vice President for Economic Development at Clemson University. In his earlier career, Bob served as top manager at the North Carolina State University Centennial Campus and Centennial Biomedical Campus in Raleigh.

Terrance Holt

Terrence Holt

Terrence is president of Holt Brothers Enterprises, a holding and investment company that he runs with his brother Torry Holt. He is vice chair of the Holt Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing support services for children who have a parent with cancer. Holt played in the National Football League as a defensive back for six years. At NC State, he was a 1st Team All-American and two-time 1st Team All-ACC player.  

Maria Kingery

Maria is co-founder of Southern Energy Management, an energy efficiency and solar power company serving the Southeast.  Maria currently serves as the company’s director of cultural development, having grown SEM from a two-person start-up in a living room to a team of 65+ with offices in the Triangle and Charlotte, NC, as well as Greenville, SC.  Prior to co-founding SEM in 2001, she served as retail operations manager for Burt's Bees.

Jennifer Martineau

Jennifer is the Vice President, Research, Innovation, and Product Development at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC.  Jennifer is responsible for the development and execution of CCL's learning, product development, innovation and knowledge dissemination agendas. She also works directly with clients, helping them to execute their business strategies by increasing organizational capacity for leadership.  Jennifer received her Ph.D from The Pennsylvania State University.

Charlie Perusse

Charlie is the Chief Operating Officer for the University of North Carolina System. He served as state budget director for three years and as deputy director of the Governor’s Office of State Budget and Management for six years. Perusse spent eight years in the General Assembly’s Fiscal Research Division.

 

Susan Rabon

Susan Rabon

B.A. Political Science (NC State University)

Susan currently serves as the Commissioner for the North Carolina Utilities Commission, the oldest regulatory body in North Carolina state government.  She serves on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners Committee on Gas as well as the Washington Action Program.  She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is a North Carolina Certified Mediator.  Susan was also named the 2013 CHASS Distinguished Alumna for her outstanding service and achievements. 

Carol Rahmani

B.A., M.S. Ph.D. Psychology (NC State University)

Carol has 29 years of experience working in the Wake County Public School System.  When she retired from public education in 2007, she was the Senior Director of Counseling and Student Services.  Over her tenure in the school system, she was responsible for a variety of student support programs, including school psychology, counseling, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, and audiology. Carol maintains her licensure as a Practicing Psychologist in North Carolina, and currently provides supervision to psychologists in private practice and donates some of her time to the provision of pro bono psychological services. 

Brad Remmey

Brad is currently a partner in Heritage Growth Partners. In 2000, he founded and managed the creation of a multimillion dollar real estate conglomerate and investment company. These successful ventures included a commercial development firm, residential development firm, and Artisan Custom Homes, a custom homebuilding company located in Davidson, NC. Prior to his successful entrepreneurial ventures, Brad began his career in corporate sales at AT&T’s Business Market Division in New Jersey and New York City.

Bing Sizemore

Bing Sizemore
B.S. Textile Chemistry (NC State University)

Bing is an investment professional with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and head of The Sizemore Group. He serves as a board member on the NC State Board of Visitors, the State Club, and Friends of Arts NC State.

Ken Wooten

Ken Wooten
B.A. Political Science (NC State University)

Ken is a managing director at Ward and Smith, PA, in New Bern, NC, where he handles litigation including construction, business and commercial, contract, public housing, insurance coverage and federal litigation.  Wooten is an International Fellow and past district governor of Civitan International and has served on the executive boards of numerous civic organizations.
