CHASS Advisory Board

Through their involvement and engagement, CHASS Advisory Board members promote the welfare of the college through advocacy, fundraising and service. Members act as spokespersons for the role of the humanities and social sciences at NC State, and for the role of the college across the state and beyond.

Kathy Council

Kathy first joined SAS in 1977. She has served as vice president since 1985. As the head of the SAS publications unit, Kathy oversees development and delivery of online and printed documentation and information products that support SAS products globally. She has held numerous leadership positions at NC State, including as a member of the Board of Visitors and the NC State University Foundation.

 

Erica Boisvert

Erica is the chief financial officer at Southern Energy Management, where she is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the company. Erica is a licensed CPA. She is an active volunteer within her community and is a proponent of advancing cognitive science, behavioral economics and information technology.

 

Steve Bullard

Steve Bullard
B.A. Economics and Business Management (NC State University)

Steve is a native of Raleigh, with 22 years of experience in banking and finance.  He is currently the corporate banking manager for BB&T’s Corporate Banking Group in the Triangle Region. He is focused on leading the corporate business development effort for the bank in the Triangle servicing publicly traded companies, large privately held companies, hospitals, universities, institutions, municipalities, venture capital companies and other large organizations.

 

Lynn Daniel

Lynn started The Daniel Group in 1989, providing strategic planning, research and training services designed to help companies measure, manage and improve customer service.. His background includes more than 11 years of management consulting experience with Norelli & Company, corporate planning and new product management positions with Rexham Corporation (now Rexam Corporation), as well as sales and sales management experience with Eli Lilly Company.  He is a past president of the NC State Alumni Association.

 

Barry Beith

Lee is a medical director with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.  He was previously in private practice as a nephrologist for 20 years in Raleigh. Lee  served in the US Air Force as a physician for 20 years. He has been an integral part of the Raleigh community through service on multiple nonprofit boards.

 

Bob Geolas

Bob Geolas
B.A. Multidisciplinary Studies (NC State University)

Bob is president and CEO of the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, where he coordinates initiatives and efforts to ensure the Park remains at the forefront of technology and applied science. Prior to joining the Foundation, Bob was executive cirector of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) and associate vice president for economic development at Clemson University. In his earlier career, Bob served as top manager at NC State's Centennial Campus and Centennial Biomedical Campus in Raleigh.

 

Terrance Holt

Terrence Holt
B.A. Sociology (NC State University)

Terrence is president of Holt Brothers Enterprises, a holding and investment company that he runs with his brother Torry Holt. He is vice chair of the Holt Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing support services for children who have a parent with cancer. Holt played in the National Football League as a defensive back for six years. At NC State, he was a 1st Team All-American and two-time 1st Team All-ACC player.  

Maria Kingery

Maria is co-founder of Southern Energy Management, an energy efficiency and solar power company serving the Southeast. Maria currently serves as the company’s director of cultural development, having grown SEM from a two-person start-up in a living room to a team of 65+ with offices in the Triangle and Charlotte, NC, as well as Greenville, SC. Prior to co-founding SEM in 2001, she served as retail operations manager for Burt's Bees.

 

Jennifer Martineau

Jennifer is vice president for research, innovation, and product development at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC. She is responsible for  developing and executing CCL's learning, product development, innovation and knowledge dissemination agendas. She also works directly with clients, helping them apply their business strategies by increasing organizational capacity for leadership. Jennifer received her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University.

 

Charlie Perusse

Charlie is the chief operating officer for the University of North Carolina System. He served as state budget director for three years and as deputy director of the Governor’s Office of State Budget and Management for six years. Charlie spent eight years in the General Assembly’s Fiscal Research Division.

 

Susan Rabon

Susan Rabon

B.A. Political Science (NC State University)

Susan serves as a commissioner for the North Carolina Utilities Commission, the oldest regulatory body in North Carolina state government. She serves on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners Committee on Gas as well as the Washington Action Program. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and is a North Carolina Certified Mediator. Susan was named the 2013 CHASS Distinguished Alumna for her outstanding service and achievements. 

 

Emily Barbour

Robert Rader
B.A. Political Science (NC State University)

Robert serves as the Chief District Court Judge for the Tenth Judicial District of North Carolina, which encompasses all of Wake County. He has served as a district court judge for the past 20 years and as a practicing attorney for eight years prior to being appointed to the bench by Governor Jim Hunt. Robert has served on the executive board of numerous professional and community organizations.

 

Carol Rahmani

Carol Rahmani
B.A., M.S. Ph.D. Psychology (NC State University)

Carol has 29 years of experience working in the Wake County Public School System. When she retired from public education in 2007, she was the senior director of counseling and student services. Over her tenure in the school system, she was responsible for a variety of student support programs, including school psychology, counseling, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology and audiology. Carol maintains her licensure as a practicing psychologist in North Carolina. She provides supervision to psychologists in private practice and donates some of her time through pro bono psychological services. 

 

Brad Remmey

Brad is a partner in Heritage Growth Partners. In 2000, he founded and managed the creation of a multimillion dollar real estate conglomerate and investment company. These successful ventures included a commercial development firm, residential development firm, and Artisan Custom Homes, a custom homebuilding company in Davidson, NC. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Brad began his career in corporate sales at AT&T’s Business Market Division in New Jersey and New York City.

 

 

Jane Rogers
B.A. English (NC State University)

Jane is an entrepreneur with 35+ years of experience working in various leadership roles within the public and private sectors. She recently served as a consultant to improve train travel in North Carolina and to secure the funding for rail corridor improvements. Her professional career is punctuated by development and fundraising. She has worked with environmental and educational organizations in and out of North Carolina and found time to volunteer with many nonprofits, including NC State’s Center for Environmental Farming Systems, the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh Precinct 01-29 and Quail Ridge Books and Music.

 

Bing Sizemore

B.S. Textile Chemistry (NC State University)

Bing is an investment professional with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and head of The Sizemore Group. He serves as a board member on the NC State Board of Visitors, the State Club, and Friends of Arts NC State.

Brooks Raiford

Courtney Turlington
B.A. Psychology (NC State University)

Courtney worked with children with autism during and after college. In 2008, she went to work for her family owned business, Pura Vida Promotions, Inc. in Kernersville, NC, an advertising specialties company providing creative marketing through promotional products. Courtney serves her community through various boards and volunteer opportunities. She is one of four founders of the nonprofit Impact Triad that offers free after-school programming for at-risk students in Kernersville.

 

Ken Wooten

Ken Wooten

Ken is a managing director at Ward and Smith, PA, in New Bern, NC, where he handles litigation including construction, business and commercial, contract, public housing, insurance coverage and federal litigation. Ken is an International Fellow and past district governor of Civitan International and has served on the executive boards of numerous civic organizations.
