Financial Aid and Scholarships


Freshman Awards

The college awards a limited number of scholarships to first-year students. There is no application form for these scholarships; application for admission to NC State in a College of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum by October 15 constitutes application. 

  • Dean's Scholar Award (for incoming freshmen, any Humanities and Social Sciences major)
  • J. Carlie Adams Scholarship (for incoming freshmen, any Humanities and Social Sciences major)
  • Slater E. Newman Scholarship (for incoming freshmen with a Psychology major)

College Merit Scholarships 

The college has a limited number of merit-based scholarships available to continuing students who have completed at least 12 letter-graded credit hours at NC State. The application process is announced and managed by the college Dean’s Office in February of each year, with most recipients notified by mid-March. Merit applicants must be full-time students and have an NC State GPA of at least 3.5. Additional criteria may apply. Leadership, extracurricular involvement and volunteer activities are also considered. Applications are not made for a specific scholarship – selected recipients apply for a generic merit award and are then matched with one of the scholarships listed below.

To make a gift in support of any of the scholarships or awards listed above, visit the College of Humanities and Social Sciences giving site and select the check box that says "I would like to give to a fund not listed here" and then enter  the name of the scholarship fund. Graduate Awards

Many of our college's departments offer graduate assistantships and fellowships. Please contact the department of interest to inquire about available scholarships and award criteria. The Graduate School also maintains a list of funding resources.

Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) assists students and parents in applying for and securing financial assistance when family resources are insufficient to meet educational expenses. OSFA offers individual as well as group financial aid counseling assistance.
