It takes a village to install a chancellor

When W. Randolph Woodson was installed as North Carolina State University’s 14th chancellor on October 26, CHASS was integral every step of the way. The ceremony, with the theme of “Locally responsive. Globally engaged,” was held in NC State’s Reynolds Coliseum. Providing CHASS bookends to the ceremony, Professor of Music Mark Scearce composed the music for the chancellor’s processional, while Professor of Music Rodney Waschka composed and conducted the academic recessional. NC State’s Poet in Residence John Balaban delivered a poem he wrote on the occasion. CHASS alum and former Chief Justice of the NC Supreme Court Burley Mitchell (Poli Sci, ’66) administered the oath of office (see picture). And student body president Kelly Hook (Poli Sci ’11) led a rousing welcome to the chancellor on behalf of the university’s students. CHASS Dean Jeff Braden co-chaired the installation committee that organized the installation and a week of celebrations, symposia, and activities to honor the new chancellor.
